Earth Day is held every year on April 22. It’s a day of action that began in 1970 and remains a great moment to pause and reflect on the small actions that, collectively, can make a real difference. For us at OMG!, sustainability isn’t a once-a-year conversation — it’s something we try to weave into the way we do business every day.
One of the commitments we’ve made is to sponsor the planting of at least 100 trees every year.
Do we personally head out with shovels and dig the holes? Well… not quite. We’re usually a little busy making donuts!
Instead, we proudly support the planting of trees through Carbon Neutral, one of Australia’s leading organisations dedicated to nature-based reforestation and carbon sequestration.
Planting trees is one of the most effective grassroots (pun intended) ways to help restore ecosystems and offset carbon emissions. It helps remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, improves biodiversity and contributes to a healthier planet.
Will 100 trees solve climate change? Of course not.
But it’s a start — and starts matter.
Sweet Treats with a Smaller Footprint
As the creators of a plant-based product, the Directors of OMG! Decadent Donuts believe it’s important to do what we can to reduce our environmental impact.
Being vegan already helps reduce the environmental footprint of food production, but we’ve tried to go further by building sustainability into other parts of the business as well.
Some of the ways we do this include:
- Using imperfect fruit – Many of our signature sugar blends use fruit that might otherwise go to waste simply because itdoesn’tmeet supermarket appearance standards.
- Solar-powered fruit drying – Wherever possible, the fruit used in our sugars is dried using solar energy.
- Recycled packaging – We prioritise packaging solutions that reduce waste and support recycling.
- Tree planting – Through our partnership with Carbon Neutral we sponsor the planting of trees each year.
Why Carbon Reduction Matters
Across the world there is growing urgency to reduce carbon emissions and create a more sustainable future.
Striving toward carbon neutrality means working to balance the carbon dioxide we emit with actions that remove or offset those emissions.
Reducing carbon emissions helps slow climate change, protect ecosystems and biodiversity, improve air quality and public health, and support the growth of renewable energy and sustainable industries.
Businesses, communities and individuals all have a role to play.
